Megan & Cole | A Stormy Backyard Wedding

July 21, 2021

Arriving to Megan and Cole's home the weather was sunny day a bit beyond humid but it is July. Thunderstorms were in the forecast but there was a tent all set up and the altar was underneath so we were prepared! My second photographer and I really loved all the décor in their house, it was just spot on to see the couple's style in their home and with all the DIY details of the day. We kept gushing how we needed Megan to decorate our homes!

As Megan got in her dress and we prepped for the first look outside...the rain came. Hard, slow, seeing blue skies in the distance and getting our hopes up. We kept checking the doppler and we were doing well with time so we waited. Finally a break, we set up Cole and brought some umbrellas and had some covering from a tree! It went off perfectly and Megan's short dress was a hit! I grabbed as many portraits as we could but the rain came back again hard so we ran back in.

There was good light in the front room of their house so we did some family shot in hopes that later on we could get some more. When your wedding is at your home you just feel more relaxed and clearly the love from your families is all around you- not only many helping hands with set up, cooking, and making sure you are hydrated and it all goes smoother. I always tell my brides that getting married is all that matters no matter what the weather is like.

The vows were as sweet as ever even though barely audible with the thunderclaps and torrential rain. What I have noticed this year are how couples are writing their vows together - they pick a line or two that is similar and incorporate it differently with their own personalization. The rain never really let up but that was alright everyone kicked off their shoes and got a bit muddy and started dancing the night away anyway! The short dress really worked in Megan's favor and we were able to take some more portraits around their property which was so pretty!

Enjoy these photos and the start to your new life together!

All smiles,

Mariel

Her friend literally made this after Megan saw some inspiration in other dresses. I'm in awe!
Also this bouquet is all wood flowers which is incredible!
Choreographed first dance was perfect
